100 Mile Club®

Have you noticed students, teachers, and even Mr. B. running and/or walking around the playground whenever they have a few extra minutes like during recess and lunch?  Have you been wondering what these individuals have been doing?  Well, wonder no more.  Thanks to a generous grant from the L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee our fourth, fifth, and sixth graders have all been enrolled in the 100 Mile Club.

The 100 Mile Club® is a physical fitness and life skills project for all individuals based on the goal of running (or walking) 100 miles at school or work during a single school year. Our goal is to help our runners experience fitness and TRUE personal success through attainable physical fitness goals.  Students use and experience lifeskills based on The Pyramid of Success, designed by the legendary basketball coach, teacher, and mentor, Coach John Wooden.

There are incentives along the way.  When students reach mile 25 they receive a 100 Mile shirt.  At miles 50 and 75 they receive another incentive and when at the end of the year all runners who have completed 100 miles will receive a medal.  I am on mile 12 and far behind many of our students, but I ma certain that we will all prevail and reach the goal of 100 miles.  So help us out by taking your child on walks or runs around the neighborhood - every mile counts!  Thanks to the L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee and the100 Mile Club® for helping Solano Scholars to get in shape!
