January 2018

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!  I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday with your family.   I would like to thank you for your attendance at both the orchestra winter concert and the school holiday program.  It means so much to our students to have their parents support throughout their education.

The Solano staff is ready to get back to work and we are anxious to help your children master the California Common Core State Standards.   It is important to monitor the balance between our work and recreation.  The Firecracker Run is just around the corner.  Many of our students have been running and walking as part of the 100 Mile Club getting ready for the races.  I would encourage you to join the Solano team in either the 5 or 10K race next month.  If you are more of a biker than a runner there is a bike ride too!

The attendance goal for every student is that he or she attends school at least 96% of the time.  To keep within this range, students may miss no more that seven (7) days out of the entire school year.  Solano's goal for the 2017-2018 school year is to have 98% in seat attendance.  The district recognizes perfect attendance as no absences, no tardies, and no leaving early.  Students who meet this criteria throughout the year will be awarded a perfect attendance certificate.   It is very important that children come to school every day and that they arrive on time.  Solano will continue monitoring absences and tardies.  Students with excessive absences and/or tardies will be referred to the School Attendance Review Team.  Let's get to school on time every day of the second semester!

The habit of the month is Habit 4 Think Win-Win.  Win-Win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all interactions. Win-Win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty good!

As part of the School-wide Positive Behavior Support and Intervention Plan we have to evaluate our plan against a rubric of implementation several times a year.  The highest score possible is 32 points.  On our most recent evaluation, we received a score of 32.  Part of our plan addresses acknowledging and reinforcing appropriate behavior.  One way we do this is via our Scholar Awards.  Tied to the 7 Habits, these yellow slips are handed out to students by staff members when we see them doing something positive.  Ask your child if he or she has received a Scholar Award recently.

We will hold our School Site Council meeting (SSC) on Tuesday, January 22, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. in Room 202.
